Description

East Asia, China, Late Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine cast-brass opium or tobacco water-pipe with removable parts and a boar hair cleaning brush! The pipe has a removable receptacle, a cylindrical opium storage container with hinged lid, and a tubular piece to store another tool such as tweezers. The lengthy stem and mouthpiece curves upward, and a red cord is wrapped from the neck to a vertical tab on the canister body. Each side of the pipe is engraved with a scene of figures dressed in traditional robes, seated playing instruments or eating in a pastoral setting. Size: 3" L x 1.5" W x 9.5" H (7.6 cm x 3.8 cm x 24.1 cm) Provenance: private Southern California collection, California, USA, acquired through descent 2006; ex-private California collection, USA, before 2000 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
