Description

Jacques and Pierre Bellenger designed this original vintage poster in 1936. This clever image shows that Bourin Quinquina is the perfect versatile beverage that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, while dining, and as an digestif. Hang it white-side-up or yellow-side-up (or even horizontally!). Quinine based drinks such as Quinquina Bourin became popular as a result of France's military skirmishes in North Africa at the turn of the century. Quinine combats malaria but tastes very bitter, so beverages were made that combined its bitterness with other flavors. The popularity of these bitter-laced cocktails outlasted any medical reason, and bitters such as Dubonnet are still popular today. Pierre and Jacques Bellenger were born in 1909 in France. The brothers worked together and have a similar style. Both men were trained at the Julian Academy where they won the Colonial Exposition contest in 1928. This began their notable career as poster artists and continued through the 1960s. During their active years, they produced advertisements for many products ranging from food and beverage to gasoline, and even motorcycles. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
