We have been so impressed by the quality and finish of the MHG timber framing chisels, that we decided to start carrying MHG’s line of bench chisels. They are manufactured in Thuringen, Germany. The total length of the various chisels differs according to their width. For instance, the 6 mm chisel is 245 mm long, but the 26 mm chisel is 275 mm long. The blades have only been sharpened, not polished, so as to avoid rounding the edges of the face, which should be as flat as possible for fine work. The handle is made of clear-finished hornbeam. It is slightly flattened so that even the narrower chisels will not roll away or off a bench (this can be very bad for floor, chisel, and/or foot!) and the grip feels comfortable in one's hand. Sizes are in millimeters, inch measurements are only approximations.

The short chisel - BUTT CHISEL is an ideal tool for finishing dovetails, small mortices, tenons, buttjoints and wherever space is tight, e.g. in drawers or when building stairs, this short chisel is preferable to chisels of normal length. It can be guided precisely and comfortably.The oiled ash handle is ergonomically shaped, so it sits well in the hand and allows for finer work.
