Lobster, any of numerous marine crustaceans constituting the families Homaridae, Palinuridae, Scyllaridae, and Polychelidae. The lobster has a rigid, segmented body covering (exoskeleton) and five pairs of legs, one or more pairs of which are often modified into pincers.
