Plaster of Paris, a cement made with gypsum (hemi-hydrated calcium sulfate), can neither be sanded nor is it waterproof. Heavier than fiberglass, this substance chips easily and is subject to mold. Because it dries quickly and does not shrink, it can be a difficult medium to fully replace.
