The Whitney Museum of American was born out of sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney's advocacy on behalf of living American artists. At the beginning of the twentieth century, unknown artists found it nearly impossible to exhibit or sell their work as patrons were focused on art being created by known artists in Europe. Recognizing the obstacles these artists faced, Mrs. Whitney began purchasing and showing their work, thereby becoming the leading patron of American art from 1907 until her death in 1942.

Inspired by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney's spirit of philanthropy toward unknown artists, this spacious tote reminds us that there are, indeed, artists among us.
The Whitney was founded by an artist for artists. This tote is perfect for the littlest artists who want to show their Whitney pride and carry around their art supplies.

The Whitney Museum - and before that the Whitney Studio Club, the Whitney Studio Galleries, and the studio and salons of Museum founder and collection artist Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney - made its home and its mark in New York City. From Greenwich Village in 1907 to Midtown in 1954 to the Upper East Side in 1963 and now in the West Side's Meatpacking district, New York City has been a foundational part of the growth and change of the Museum over its history.

Now the Museum's mark is hiding in plain sight in one of the city's most recognizable icons courtesy of author, designer, and illustrator Tamara Shopsin in this highly-functional bag and backpack.
This durable pouch is the perfect accessory for carrying essentials for Emerging Artists. The convenient size and handle make this pouch ideal for travel or holding art supplies.

Throughout her career as artist, activist, and educator, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith has forged a personal yet accessible visual language she uses to address environmental destruction, war, genocide, and the misreading of the past. The exhibition was the first New York retrospective bringing nearly five decades of Smith's drawings, prints, paintings, and sculptures in the largest and most comprehensive showing of her career to date. This roomy market tote features Smith's Coyote Sees the World Clearly, 2009.
