White bags--how practical are they?

When my coworker G. was saving up for her first It bag, she forewent pedicures, ate leftovers and skipped weekends out-of-town to afford it. When it came to making the big purchase, she chose the white YSL Muse because she wanted something seasonless, that wouldn't need to be retired every year between May and September. At first G. was totally psyched about her purchase--and she did wear her bag every single day. Flash forward six months when she noticed the white leather was starting to crack and show hints of tan. Suddenly her luxury handbag was lookinggrubby. "I could have bought Christmas presents for my entire family with what I paid for this," she said. I feel her pain. This is one reason I've never invested in a white bag, even though I love the idea of carrying it in winter. My brown color leather bags look busted enough after a season of wear and tear.
