Ask Meguiar's: In general, polishes add depth of color and are gloss enhancers to your paint, some may even have an abrasive to help remove minor defects. Wax protects the paint from the weather and the environment. This is similar to sun screen for your skin, plus they add some additional gloss and shine to your paint. On the other hand, a sealant which is a synthetic polymer, may not give you that extra gloss but it offers superior protection.
